Silver is a very common choice for a bling chain (necklace). The main reasons for this are availability and affordability. Sterling silver chains can be found at a jewelry store in almost any mall. They can be found in the center islands in the malls as well. They generally cost anywhere from $65 - $150. Any less than $65 and I would be worried that they are fake. The best way to be sure is to make your purchase from a reputable jeweler. Also note that although big name stores will never sell you a fake jewelry product outright because of possible legal issues and keeping their good name, they will try to sell you silver products that are silver plated. As long as there is some silver in the product that can get away with saying it is silver or use other fancy terms that basically say the product is silver plated. This could easily confuse someone who is not very knowledgeable about jewelry or even someone who is. If they are a reputable store, and they say it is sterling silver, then it should be real silver.
