Types of Metals in Bling

There are four main types of metal used in jewelry. Stainless Steel, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Stainless steel is the cheapest metal used and can be purchased very cheap. Usually this is what you find in coin machines, and other too cheap to be true venues. You must also be careful when shopping online. Some may be stainless steel and only coated with sliver. Silver is worth much more than stainless steel and looks better. Usually it is sold as sterling silver meaning it is silver all the way through. Be careful not to buy a stainless steel chain that is coated in silver. If you are thinking of purchasing some silver bling, you should check our guide on how to tell if silver is real or not.

Gold is more expensive yet. If you chose to buy gold, be careful when wearing it. It is one of the softer metals, so it can break easily. That also demonstrates that you cannot use strength to tell what kind of metal your jewelery is made of. If you do want to find out if your gold is real or not, check out our Gold Buying Guide. Platinum is the most expensive metal that you most jewelery is made of. It looks slightly better than silver but isn't much different other than that.
